Wolfgang Falck – the so-called Nachtjagd's "father" - was one of the Luftwaffe's aviation aces who believed that one of the Luftwaffe's major "failures" was its preference for the Bf 109 over the He 112. Falck's eighth unit from Jagdgeschwader Richthofen soon flew the Heinkel in 1938. “…The He 112 was an excellent aircraft… much easier to fly for inexperienced pilots, and with its low, wide landing gear much less susceptible to loops above the ground… if the decision had been left to the airmen, they would undoubtedly have preferred the He 112 to the Bf 109… Messerschmitt had to lobby hard ” or have much better contacts with “higher levels”…”
